ATE was established in 1995 by Andrew Bradshaw, who started the business working from his garden shed. The company has come a long way since then, initially moving into premises on Cannon Street in Colchester, before moving into its current location on Grange Way Industrial Estate near Hythe.
As a small, family-run business, ATE provides towed equipment parts to a range of companies involved with plant and tool hire, councils, landscapers, and machinery dealers. “Our mission is to reduce downtime and increase the safety for any business that moves equipment for work, using innovative techniques,” explained Tiffany Mitchell, Marketing Coordinator.
“We always listen and respond to the daily needs of our customers, something which led to the development of our Towmate® brand of trailers, including plant, flat bed, rolling chassis and pipe trailers. The brand also includes a range of spare parts, such as jockey wheels, lighting tower parts, and beacons.”
ATE’s own brand of equipment is supplied in addition to its range of products from other manufacturers, contributing to ATE’s selection of 4,500 stocked lines. This high number of on-the-shelf products means that ATE can offer its customers shorter lead times, with the ability to take next working day orders up until 4.30pm.
“We are very focused on customer service and work hard to offer competitive prices,” Tiffany explained. “We mainly stand out because of our company values and the tight-knit ethos of ‘one team’ that runs through our office and warehouse. We are also proud of the expertise of our staff and the host of friendly faces our customers are greeted with when working with us.”
A particular range of products offered by ATE is its spare parts for lighting towers, something which is pertinent during this time of year as the nights draw in. “We have our own range of parts for Trime lighting towers, and we also cater for VT1, VB9, TL90 and Bruno towers. These are offered with competitive pricing and with next working day delivery to UK mainland addresses.
“We also offer our own brand of low profile beacons. These have proven highly popular; beacons from other brands are often prone to being knocked because they are too tall, but our beacons are shorter and avoid such risks.”
Since its humble beginnings, ATE has seen impressive levels of growth and is continuing to develop. “We’re going through a period of expansion and so have welcomed many new faces over the last year, which is incredibly exciting. We have also launched our brand new website!”
Indeed, ATE has a number of future plans in the pipeline, with the goal to offer more parts and trailers that are of the same high quality as its current range, solving the everyday challenges its customers encounter. “We will be launching a new range of plant trailers, which we showcased at The Executive Hire show to a great response. This range has been created through our Research and Development department, which investigated the problems our customers were facing and developed products in response.”
